The Outlawz colour challenge, but no card.

Good morning friends,

Once again it is a beautiful day here in the southern part of Africa and I would love to welcome my new followers. I hope you will be back to visit often and do let me know what you thin, I love to read all your comments.

This week  the Colour challenge at The Outlawz is being hosted by my teamie Heather.

She has chosen the South African flag as her colour palette, and of course that excites me no end, as that is my country's flag. All you have to do is make a project using these colours and there is no extra twist.

Our sponsor for the last time this week is All Dressed Up.  Most of the DT have used one of their images, but I decided to leave out an image this week, as I had something else I wanted to try with these colours.

I have been doing some quilling on and off for the last few years, but for some time now I have been so inspired by the work of some quilling artists and one in particular just amazes me with her beautiful work. The work that Otilla does is truly mind blowing and you can see some of it HERE.

I have made a map of Africa, using some quilling shapes to fill it in. I decided to put it onto a small canvas. (I have a number of these gathering dust in my cupboard) and coloured the background with shades of blue for the sea, and some browns for the land. With some gell medium I created a bit of a design on the canvas.

The words are taken from a poem written by John Nox Bokwe and it has been set to music. It has been recorded by several choral groups and soloists. One of our African sopranos sings this so beautifully and it just moves me every time I listen to it. HERE is a rendition of this beautiful prayer if you would like to here it.

I do hope you like my little African canvas, and I would love to see you enter our challenge using these lovely colours.

A little quilling for Christmas

Good afternoon everyone.
I have another Christmas card to show. I am trying very hard to make my 2 Christmas cards a month for the challenge at The 12 months of Christmas link-up #3...Let it snow.
I have already entered my first card with the snowman, so this time I have done something else I enjoy and that is quilling. Making it with a day to spare.

There isn't much to say about it. The star was taken from peel-offs and the sentiment was from a set of printed sentiments that came with a paper in a magazine some time ago.

Will enter the following challenges.
The Glory of Christmas #55...Christmas tree.
Hiding in my Craftroom #193...Any holiday
Crafting with an Attitude #1...Anything goes
Fab n Funky challenge #252...Christmas

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead and hope wherever you things are going well. Take care.

WOW...DT. favourite, winner and in the spotlight

Hello friends,
This is the third day of the New Year and it couldn't get better crafting wise. They say things come in 3's...well I had three lovely surprises the last few days...is this a sign for the rest of the year??? who knows.

This card was chosen as a DT favourite at Eureka Stamps for challenge #120

Then I was a winner at Inspiration Destination challenge #13 with my quilled tags.
Today I was in the spotlight at Crafting by Designs for December challenge with this card.
I hope you are all enjoying a restful weekend, before the normal routine begins again on Monday.
I can't make up my mind what day it is, so it will be good to get back to a normal week .

Take care and see you soon.

Some quilling today

Happy Sunday friends,
Well the last Sunday of the year has dawned with cloudy, misty weather...not the sunny weekend we all wish for. I don't really mind as I do enjoy this weather as well.

I haven't done any quilling for a bout 2 years now, but got out my tools and papers after attending a refresher class a couple of weeks ago. I have always enjoyed the various ways of working with paper. I decided to make some tags to go onto gifts this year. One of my nieces has always loved penguins and when I saw a quilled penguin, I just new this had her name on it. I made the snowflakes with the papers that I had and just love the way they came out.

I will see if there are any challenges to enter these.
